mesmeric flute playing.
The Independent |
Her technique is absolutely
secure and she draws a lovely sound from her single-keyed baroque
flute. She also has a wonderful way with a phrase, each one having a
shapely life of its own, yet taking its proper place within the whole.

A 'Tour de Force'... Rachel Brown's depth of
technical and historical knowledge about her instruments, coupled with
her surety of technique made us feel immediately at ease... a
beautifully phrased rendition of this hauntingly beautiful romantic
melody... Through music, fact and humorous anecdote I had a thoroughly
enjoyable and informative evening.

British Flute
Society Convention, August 2006
exquisite musicianship... The
audience, at least 400 strong, didn't move a muscle at the end, so
entranced were they by the sound and the precision of the playing...
Rachel Brown gave what was for me the most completely musical,
cultured performance of the convention... She is so clearly not just a
wonderful musician, but a keenly intelligent one too. We listened with
rapture as she used all her skills of finger vibrato, tuning and
tonguing to bring this music so completely to life.

Throughout the evening she showed an exemplary
taste in decoration, unusually forthright projection for such a
naturally retiring instrument and, above all, an ability to give any
phrase she was playing a clear sense of line.
