une interprétation
magnifique d’intelligence et de musicalité...un régal à ne pas manquer!
Traversières, France |
As fine a piece of music making as you will ever
hear...a triumph of scholarship and musicianship...Only rarely does a
recording come along that is of such musical importance and is so
enjoyable at the same time. I can’t recommend this too strongly.

The
playing is highly expressive; Rachel Brown opens the Largo of
No 9, the weightiest of all the sonatas, with heart-rending pathos.
Fast movements are so technically secure that they retain a sense of
spaciousness, though there are sparkling moments of virtuosity...
Recorded sound is good, particularly in the balance of flute/recorder
with harpsichord. Highly commended as both the complete Op. 1 package
and as deeply satisfying performances.

The perfect ambassador to bring
a few of these unfamiliar but intriguing works back into the
repertoire... Brown's daring expression and technical brilliance...
seem intuitive.
BBC Music Magazine |
This disc is a real knockout. The
music is simply marvellous.
Soundscapes, Australia |

The performances are magnificent. Brown's technical command of her
instrument is breathtaking... Only the loudest cheers will do.
Goldberg |
Enthralling music, perceptively played.
International Record Review |
This is a recording to treasure and it is above
all the sombrely meditative Largo con sordini of the A major
concerto that stays in my memory.

recording... Rachel Brown and The London Handel Players give
performances that are perfection itself, with a dazzling beauty of
tone and of phrasing, a breadth of colours and a range of dynamics...
more than that, this recording is full of the most delicious music you
could ask to hear, and the players give every indication of loving
every note they play.

Exquisite delicacy... her sweet, full tone, her
precise intonation, her relaxed ornamentation - all are here exhibited
from the outset... as much fun as it is beautiful.
International Record Review |
elegantly persuasive

Rachel Brown had
perfected her art; in her hands the flute is both expressive and well
formed in all registers, with a wide range of sound from the wooing to
the exciting... her freedom imbues every phrase with musical meaning.
The Musical Times |
The beauty of tone, the variety of colours, the
freedom of rhythm and phrasing, the dynamic range she commands - all
in all she is a real master of the instrument.
Fanfare |
with Brown combining
taste, passion and a sort of languid, expansive freedom that seems the
very essence of good baroque manners... from beginning to end a disc
of high-quality flute-playing.

Wonderfully musical
performances from Rachel Brown.
Classic CD |
What I particularly admire is the rhythmic
suppleness and unforced tone of Rachel Brown's playing.
